Folic Acid may prevent Heart Attacks and Strokes

Today, The Times reports that a daily dose of Folic Acid could helpt to prevent strokes and heart disease.

British scientists have discovered that raised levels of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood is one of the causes of cardiovascular disease.

…Since folic acid helps to lower homocysteine, the scientists believe increasing intake of the vitamin could help to reduce the risk of disease.

It is already known that Folic Acid prevents Spina Bifida in babies. In addition, it is thought that that Folic Acid could help to prevent some cancers and Alzheimer’s disease.
